"Because I was bored..."

What possesses an eight year old to take a crayon and draw on the car door?

That's what I asked myself yesterday when Aidan
drew on the inside of the car door during the 5-10 min. ride back from gymnastics. His reply when asked why was, "Because I was bored. I wanted to draw with the crayon and had nothing to draw on and I wanted to see if the crayon would draw on the car." And it does, ladies and gentlemen. It does. His best buddy Kaiden was sitting right next to him in the back seat. Aidan could have easily beat his boredom by talking to him. But no, he decided to take the red crayon he found and draw happy faces on the inside of the car door.
This is the type of behaviour I'd expect from a toddler, but an eight year old?

A full week...

This week has been full of happenings. First off was Monday. I took Connor to his first Kiwanis Music Festival competition. I was his accompanist. Before leaving for the competition, he was very upset. He really didn't want to compete. It's ok to perform in a recital or concert setting but competing upset him. He definitely didn't get that from me...lol. Anyways, everything turned out for the best. He got 2nd place, despite the mistake I made on the piano. Usually if I make a mistake, he's really good at carrying on. I just pick up where he's at if I make a mistake. Now to understand what happened, I have to explain that my part has a lot of movement in the left hand. When we were beginning a new section, I didn't hit my first left hand note hard enough to make a sound before I moved my hand up to play the next chord so Connor was waiting for me to start while I went ahead to play the 2nd chord. He hesitated and we didn't come back together as nicely as we usually do if I make a mistake. Anyways, he didn't get punished for my mistake, which was good. I was feeling really guilty.

On Tuesday, Sheldon and I made another trip to Farm Boy. Once again, we were reminded that there are surgically enhanced chickens walking on Boy's farm. Apparantly, they are on sale again this week. Oh and I wasn't the only one obsessing about them either. While visiting teaching, Lindsey had brought the subject up.

Then on Wednesday, D and R had their baby. Welcome to the world baby Scott.

On Friday morning, I went to the passport office to get the boys' passports. I arrived at 7:15 and the doors opened at 7:30. There were already 30-40 people in line when I got there. Apparantly the whole week had been pretty quiet and this was the first day in a while they've seen so many people in line. So great, of all days I had to pick to go. It wasn't too bad, I guess. I got to work before 9:30.

On Friday night, I went over to Jen's house so we can figure out where exactly we're going on our upcoming adventure to France. The theme song of the night was "Sur le pont d'Avignon". As we were planning, I realized I couldn't have chosen a better travel companion. We've never truly discussed
what we wanted to see and do on the trip but it turned out we wanted to do exactly the same. We agreed not to visit a town for the same reasons and we even agreed we'd rather spend our nights in a quaint little bed & breakfast place than a fancy chateau when Eric showed us pictures of different places we could stay at. Even how we researched showed great teamwork. Jen would look up a town in the travel book, I'd check the Internet, and as she was looking up more information, I'd look to see how long it would take to travel to each town. There's even a festival in Nimes during the days we planned to visit there. Everything just worked out so perfectly. I am definitely excited for our adventure now that we know where we're going.

And it brings us to today. I had a wonderful Mommy and Aidan night. We wnet out for dinner, saw a movie, and then he helped me pick out Sheldon's birthday present.

Next Saturday will be Mommy and Connor night. I'm looking forward to that as well, but he better not pick Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as the movie. I don't know if I could sit through that again. If he does, I may have to jump off Pont d'Avignon, not dance on it.

Supersize Me

The other day, Sheldon and I were picking up a few items at Farm Boy. They had chicken breasts on sale which was one of the main reasons we went there. Now Farm Boy must be investing in some plastic surgeons because these breasts were huge! Are chickens getting implants? Just to show you how big these babies are, I put a very large hamburger bun (one that you would find at Costco) beside it just to give you some perspective.

I have to admit, I did obsess about this for a couple of days because I can't believe there are chickens walking around with larger breasts than me. Somebody sure supersized this chicken.

Speaking of supersizing, we were at the fabulous Dollarama - where every single item is a loonie or less - when Aidan and Sheldon starting fighting in the aisles with foam swords. A few days later, we were at Mrs. Tiggy Winkles and we saw the exact same foam swords but for 10 times the price. That's right. Mrs. Tiggy Winkles were selling foam swords for $9.99!

What is this world coming to? I need to bury my sorrows in some Old Dutch Ketchup Chips. Has anyone found them yet?

And the winner is...

...not me. However we did come in third place for the iPhone "Apprentice-like" project. There are no prizes though...just the glory.

Attention All West Coasters in the Capital...

Oh. My. Goodness. Look to your right to see what product just got advertised on TV. That's right. You're not seeing things. Old Dutch Chips just got advertised on TV. D and R, are you sure you guys want to move back to Alberta now when you'll be able to get Old Dutch ketchup chips here now?

For those of you Easterners who have no idea what the fuss is about, just pick up a bag and you'll be converted.

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping

Can I just say how much I love shopping, especially when you have money put aside for it. And I have been very impressed with Smart Set's line of clothes these past few seasons. They have tops that are long enough to cover your butt when you bend over. And they have shirt dresses...I love shirt dresses. However, I didn't buy any this time around. They didn't have the one I liked in my size. Oh well. I did pick up five great tops and a couple pair of pants for work. All I need now is a couple new pairs of jeans and my work wardrobe is complete...except for shoes and accessories, of course. Ahhhh, nothing tops off a four-day weekend better than some retail therapy.

We played a lot of cards too this weekend with the de Souzas. Girls kicked the guys' butts...like it should be. And man, did I eat a lot of chocolate. I totally junked out. Time to whip back in shape now...well maybe once all the chocolate is gone first.

Props to Sheldon

OK. Sheldon is complaining now that I didn't acknowledge the great mp3/video player that he bought me. It wasn't an official birthday present but he wanted me to publicly brag about it. So here's a pic of it. Thanks, honey.

Welcome to the World, Brendan

Congrats to my cousin, who is like my big sister. They just had a baby boy. He was born April 3rd. We joked how he could come on my birthday but I guess he just couldn't wait one more day. I found out the day he was born and called the hospital in Vancouver right away. Her husband answered and laughed how news travelled fast. Hey, when it's important like this, I just have to know.

As for my own birthday, tonight we feasted on sushi at my favourite restaurant...Taste of Japan. Aidan is the picky eater in the family but I was very proud of him when he actually ate a spider roll. For those sushi novices, that's a soft shell crab that's coated in tempura batter, deep fried, then wrapped as a roll. You eat the whole crab...legs and all. The legs just stick up out of the roll, hence the name spider roll. Usually, he only eats salmon sashimi (just raw slices of salmon) but this time, he even ate salmon nigiri (slices of raw salmon on rice).

Afterwards, we went to Dairy Queen for dessert. I was worried the boys wouldn't be able to go to bed with all that ice-cream in their tummies, but somehow they zonked right out.

The latest news on Connor's situation is this...the principal got involved, pulled in the little twerps, gave them a talking to, and called their parents. So far I have not heard any new complaints from Connor. Thanks to all of you who gave me advice and kept him in your prayers. Hopefully this is the last of this chapter in his life.

Anyways, time to go to bed and dream about the sushi I just ate. Mmmmmm...unagi and california rolls. Yummy goodness!!!

*** Chrissie, are you officially jealous yet? lol....good!!!
