No Sno in July
Once again it is time for the annual Stake Family Picnic at Britannia Park. This year I was excited because I rented a sno-cone machine for the event. However, I realized quickly that there is no where to plug a sno-cone machine in when you're in the middle of a beach/park. So I started hunting for people who had a generator that I could borrow. You would think that after the ice storm 8 years ago that this would be easy. After asking numerous people, I finally came across somebody who had a small portable one that I could use. However because it was a smaller generator we were worried that it wouldn't have enough juice to power a sno-cone machine. I had to call the party store today to find out how much power this machine sucks. The man at the store promptly told me that I could not plug the sno-cone machine into a generator because it needs a constant supply of power. Not knowing anything about generators, I assume now that the power from generators is not constant. I don't know why, but OK. So I asked if I could cancel the rental and get my deposit back. He said that it was a non-refundable deposit! My heart sank. That's about a $70 deposit! Luckily he was in a good mood and said that he would refund the money back to my credit card. Whew! That was a close call.
Then later, I had to go to a client's office for a meeting. I was not prepared to go anywhere because I initially thought this meeting was going to be a conference call. I wasn't dressed to meet with a client either (I was wearing jeans, a black t-shirt, and flip flops). I found out they wanted me on-site 30 min. before the meeting was to begin. Luckily, I drove to work today because I was going to pick up the generator (that I no longer needed) after work. So even though I didn't need to pick up the generator anymore, I still had a vehicle to get to the client's office. But then I found out that they wanted someone from the creative studio to come too. So I scrambled to find someone that works on this account and we ran out of the office to try and make it in time for the meeting.
We got to the office but as I was turning into the visitor parking lot, I realized I had no cash on me to pay to get into the lot! Neither did the designer that was with me. Luckily the parking attendant was in a generous mood as well and let me park there for free. I went to the bank machine in the building with the intent to pay the $3 when leaving the lot. However the attendant was gone and people were free to come and go as they pleased. I guess I'll have to catch him the next time I'm there.
So even though there is no sno in July, there are plenty of generous and charitable people out there.

A Very Busy Week
You would think that living by yourself would allow you to have lots of spare time. This week didn't prove this to be true at all.
Sunday: went to church, went to visit Amy in the hospital (impromptu decision), went to Brianna's baptism
Monday: went to work exhausted (see previous posting), went to the post office, went to grab a few groceries, wolfed down supper in 5 minutes which left me 5 minutes to get ready for volleyball and pickup a team mate (Sheldon, can you just picture me running around the house?), played volleyball and saw a man in a Speedo (Why is that men that wear Speedos are the men that should never wear Speedos? Actually, let me rephrase that. Men should never wear Speedos, period.) watched Canadian Idol
Tuesday: went to work, went to RS Enrichment, rushed home to watch Canadian Idol
Wednesday: went to pickup then deliver a cake to a client (long story), went to work, stayed at work later because my moonlighting as a cake delivery driver made me fall behind at work a bit, rushed home to eat dinner so I could donate blood (very bad to skip a meal before donating), crossed my fingers that I would pass the iron level test, donated blood (YES! I passed the test!!) rushed home to watch So You Think You Can Dance ,(this was supposed to be replaced by going to see the movie Paris. Je t'aime with Jen but she canceled on me. Hey, is it still playing?)
Thursday: went to work, had dinner with Dixie, went shopping (I hate bra shopping but it's been about 3-4 years since I last went), watched So You Think You Can Dance
Friday: went to work, stayed at work late again, rushed home to shower (no time for dinner), rushed to Bev's house, double-booked myself so left after 45 min. and went to meet Angelina, Tom, James, Jon, and Korteney to watch Harry Potter...IMAX-style (but first I caved and went through drive-thru for a cheeseburger and fries...man, was I starving by then), didn't get to bed until 1am
Saturday: had a quick breakfast, ran some errands, gobbled down some lunch, threw some laundry in, mowed the lawn (front and back), watered the garden, laid some grass seed down, tried to wash rust stains out of cement (CLR did not work so unfortunately the stains are still there) , vacuumed, swept, and mopped the floors, made some mini-cheesecake tarts, cleaned one of the bathrooms, cleared the clutter in the kitchen and living room, took a shower, ran to Ikea because I suddenly had the idea that I wanted to serve our non-alcoholic drinks in wine glasses (ok, those lineups are way too long), hosted girls' night, didn't get to bed until 2:30am
Girls night was a blast. It was great seeing everyone again. It's been too long. And hopefully those who couldn't make it (and said they would...I'm talking to you, Sheri!) can come by next time. Angelina proved that you can never show up too late...lol. Oh and I hope some of our topics of discussion didn't scare anyone away...yikes! Good times, good times.

A Close Call
On Monday at 3am, I woke up suddenly to the faint sound of thunder. I sat up very quickly and turned on the light. My heart was pounding and I was trying not to freak out. I turned on the TV and turned up the volume in order to drown the sounds out. Then I realized that all the windows and blinds upstairs were open! I mustered up the courage and ran around the house frantically closing the windows and blinds. I had to hum a song while I did it to keep my nerves from getting to me. I watched a bit of a pilates infomercial on TV until I was starting to get sleepy again. The storm didn't come closer so I went back to sleep.
Then at 4am, I heard thunder again. On goes the light and TV again. The storm didn't come closer again, so I tried to go back to sleep. The cycle went around again at 6am. What an awful night. Plus my allergies are really bad for the last couple of days so I've been feeling blegh! My eyes are totally bloodshot and eyedrops are not helping at all.
On another note, the boys are having a good time. However, Connor is starting to get very bored and annoyed with the kids. Eiliana, my niece, is very much like Aidan. Connor is at the stage where he finds Aidan very, very annoying. So now he has to put up with two "Aidans". Sheldon says he may send Connor to a day camp or something in order for him to play with kids his own age. That should help things a bit. Poor guy. I really feel for him.
Well, I better get back to work. It's a busy, busy week and I don't seem to find the time at home to get on the computer. Ahhh, the single life.

Iron, Gypsies, and Paint
I am just over halfway through my first week of living on my own. It hasn't been too bad. I would have brief moments of fear before going to bed each night, but otherwise I'm doing well. My eating habits have been good...lots of spinach salads, cream of wheat, and iron pills to rev my body up for my next blood donation appointment on Wednesday. I really hate being rejected.
Yesterday I painted Aidan's room. It took my about 10 hours to finish because I had to clear his room as much as possible, rip off the girly teddy bear wallpaper left from the de Souzas, wash the walls, and then apply two coats of paint. I had to do this in two phases (half of the room per phase) because I couldn't move the bed and bookshelf out of the room by myself. I even brought a mini-tv upstairs while I worked so I could watch/listen to Live Earth. The music kept me entertained. I have to say, I really loved Madonna's performance. She is also in such good shape. I want arms like hers...not the flabby chicken wings that I have. I think if she ever goes on tour, that's one concert I would definitely like to see. She did a rendition of La Isla Bonita featuring a couple of gypsies on the violin and guitar. It was amazing. I loved it. The song incorporated another gypsy like song into it...very cool.
Anyways, I've been keeping up to date with the comings and goings of the guys through emails and blog entries (btw Sheldon, it's about time for another entry, don't you think?). However last night, just as I was going to sleep, they called so I was able to physically hear their voices. Bad idea. It made me realize how much I missed them. I wanted to hug them all so badly but I knew I had to wait three whole weeks before I could do it. That is much too long of a wait. So I'm trying to keep myself busy. I've jam-packed my week with activities, and now I want to paint my hallway before Saturday so it frees me up the following Saturday to go on the RS temple trip. Can I do it, or am I just setting myself up to be exhausted? We shall see...

Running Away Screaming
Sheldon and the boys are visiting Sheldon's brother, Monte, and his family. So similarly to my trip to France, Sheldon keeps me updated on what they're doing on his blog. While reading Sheldon's blog, something made me run away screaming. While helping to care for our nephew, Sheldon has developed another case of...ready for it...baby fever!!
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Home Alone
Yesterday afternoon, Sheldon and the boys left for Texas. They are gone for 3.5 weeks. That's right folks. I get the whole house to myself. Now those who know me know that I would never just sit around and do absolutely nothing. So these are the projects I have on my list to do while they are away:
1. paint Aidan's room (a surprise for him)
2. paint hallway...and possibly the kitchen too
3. finish the front garden
4. put up some pictures
5. toning up my forearms
6. count calories to help #5.
So last night was day one. I went to Ikea after work and bought a few things for the house. This included a jar for my Juno Beach sand. I didn't find picture frames I liked so I went to Michael's and found a couple for my chateau pictures.
Then I worked with some weights and did some pushups. Best of all, I only ate 1200 calories and wasn't too hungry!!
Anyways, besides missing the boys, I should be fine on my own. The only thing I'm really, really worried about are thunderstorms. I am absolutely terrified of them. I have no idea what I'm going to do if we have a thunderstorm. Well, that's not true. I know exactly how I'll react during a thunderstorm. I just don't know to what extreme now that I'm alone.
